Race Report - Thunder Valley
Thunder Valley MX
Motocross Class Moto 1Early leader is Christian Craig on the
Troy Lee Designs Honda team. But chasing him right away is Chad Reed,
Ryan Villopoto, and Ryan Dungey.
The track is getting dried out
and rutted compared to earlier in the day. And here comes Supercross
Champion Ryan Villopoto! Ryan goes past both Reed and Christian Craig
and into the lead! The top riders as they start lap six - Villopoto,
Reed, Ryan Dungey, Christian Craig, Josh Grant, Mike Alessi, Kevin
Windham, Andrew Short, Ricky Dietrich, Justin Brayton, and Brett
Metcalfe.
On lap 11, the best battle on the track is between Chad
Reed and Ryan Dungey. They've been close together for a while. Dungey
finally moves post Reed and into second. Running order now - Villopoto
first, Dungey second, Reed third, Mike Alessi now fourth, Kevin Windham
fifth, Christian Craig sixth, Andrew Short seventh, Ricky Dietrich
eighth.
Josh Grant has pulled off the track. He looks to be in pain ... (turns out to be he's re-injured his knee).
Ryan Villopoto is looking smooth, fast, and (as much as you can racing professional MX) conserving energy as he leads this race. This 16 lap race (30 minutes plus 2 laps) win goes to Ryan Villopoto!
Second is defending 2010 Motocross Champion Ryan Dungey. Third goes to
current series points leader Chad Reed.

250 MXLites Moto 1
Again,
the track is getting more rutted in the corners, and drying out on the
straights. It's probably close to 90+ degrees here today. Very taxing on
both the riders and bikes. The leader of this first '250' race is
Justin Barcia, number 17 Honda. Last week it was revealed that Justin is
dealing with an illness - mononucleosis. 'Mono' is not something that
you recover from quickly. Regardless, Justin is out front and leading!
Now
on lap three - it's Justin Barcia leading, with Dean Wilson in second,
and Blake Baggett in third. Fourth thru tenth - Darryn Durham (who has
shown good speed all season long on the privateer Honda), Kyle
Cunningham, Gareth Swanepoel, Cole Seely, Travis Baker, 'hometown' rider
Eli Tomac, and L Vincent.
Dean Wilson is closing in on Justin
Barcia for the lead. He's close enough to get a good look at Justin and
his lines. And Blake Baggett is right behind his teammate Dean Wilson.
The top three are now very close!
On lap six, Dean Wilson goes
inside and passes Justin Barcia for the lead. Then a few seconds later,
Blake Baggett moves past Barcia as well. Wilson and Baggett are
literally side-by-side. And Barcia is right behind the two of them.
Just
a few moments later, Baggett has moved past Wilson and into the lead!
Baggett has also put in the quickest lap of the race - 2 minutes 16
seconds. It's Baggett leading now on lap seven, Wilson second ... and
Barcia goes down! At the end of seven laps, the running order is Blake
Baggett, Dean Wilson, Darryn Durham in third, Eli Tomac, Justin Barcia,
Gareth Swanepoel, Cole Seely ... here comes Broc Tickle, and finally we
notice series points leader Tyla Rattray in ninth. Travis Baker is
tenth, and Malcolm Stewart is 11th now.
Baggett has a big gap over
second place Wilson. If positions stay the same (Wilson in second, and
Rattray in ninth) Wilson would take over the points lead - at least
temporarily. But Rattray is coming thru the pack, along with teammate
Broc Tickle. At the start of lap 13, it's Baggett with the big lead,
Wilson second, Tomac has moved into third, Durham a nice fourth,
Swanepoel with a good ride in fifth, and Rattray has moved to sixth,
Tickle seventh ... then Seely, Barcia, and Baker round out the top ten.
Blake Baggett, racing for the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team, wins this race!
He goes 16 laps. Teammate Dean Wilson second. Third goes to Colorado
(Cortez to be exact) native Eli Tomac on the GEICO Honda, fourth Darryn
Durham, fifth goes to a hard charging Tyla Rattray. Gareth Swanepoel
sixth, then Broc Tickle, Cole Seely, Justin Barcia, and Travis Baker.

Motocross Class Moto 2
Chad
Reed leads right from the start. But a little over two laps into the
race, Ryan Dungey, the current AMA Motocross class Champion, is leading
after everyone settles. Chad Reed now in second, and Ryan Villopoto is
third.
Fourth position is Kevin Windham, then Tommy Hahn, Justin Brayton, Davi
Millsaps, Andrew Short, Michael Byrne, and Jimmy Albertson.
On
lap four, Villopoto goes by Chad Reed. Running order now Dungey,
Villopoto, Reed, Windham, Hahn, Brayton, Millsaps, Short, Byrne,
Albertson, Metcalfe. Dungey leads Villopoto.
More
than halfway into this race, the running order at the top remains the
same - Ryan Dungey on the number 1 plated Suzuki first, Ryan Villopoto
is second, Chad Reed is third, Kevin Windham fourth, T Hahn fifth, D
Millsaps sixth. Then Metcalfe, Short, Brayton, Byrne, and Albertson.
Dungey and Villopoto have a big lead over Reed in third ...
This race is going to go 16 laps. And the winner of the moto, and taking the overall victory - his first of the outdoor season - Ryan Dungey!
Ryan Villopoto takes second in this race, and second overall. Chad Reed
finishes third in the moto for third overall, and retains series points
lead. Fourth thru tenth in this race - Windham, Hahn, Millsaps,
Metcalfe, Short, Byrne, Brayton.

250 MX Lites Moto 2
Blake
Baggett, number 57 on the Pro Circuit Kawasaki, is on fire in the heat
of Colorado. He won the first moto, and is now leading this second moto.
Behind him are Dean Wilson, L Vincent, Ryan Sipes, Eli Tomac, Darryn
Durham, Tyla Rattray, Nico Izzi, Malcolm Stewart, and N Paluzzi.
Just
about halfway into this moto, Blake Baggett leads teammate Dean Wilson
by over ten seconds. Third position is Eli Tomac. Then Ryan Sipes,
Darryn Durham, Tyla Rattray, Malcolm Stewart, and Justin Barcia.
Baggett
looks to be cruising to the moto win, and the overall victory. Wilson
comfortably in second, Tomac in third. If they stay the same, it's
exactly as they finished in the first moto. Currently Ryan Sipes is in
fourth, Tyla Rattray has worked into fifth, followed by Durham, M
Stewart, Paluzzi, .. Barcia is 12th, Seely is 17th, Swanepoel 23rd,
Tickle 34th.
After 15 laps, with his last lap being 2 minutes 22 seconds, Blake Baggett wins the moto and the overall! In second place, and second overall - Dean Wilson. In third place in this race, and third overall on the day - Eli Tomac.
